Shelly joined the CMF-Ethiopia team in August 2004 to begin working among the urban poor of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital.  Shelly’s focus is on those who live with HIV/AIDS, complications from leprosy, cancer, and others bound by poverty.  With her team, she teaches Community Health Evangelism to change the hearts and minds of the people through holistic development and not relief.  She also trains national staff and volunteers in grief counseling and hospice care, makes home visits, and shares the message of Christ’s love with the sick and dying and their families.

A special project for Shelly has been a boys’ soccer team.  As their sponsor, she has provided equipment, encouragement, education, spiritual teaching, and care for them.  Her first team has now grown into men who are becoming godly influences in their communities.  She has a new soccer team of 31 boys – some of whom are Muslim – that she sponsors, teaches the Bible to, and provides other help.

Shelly also teaches English, Biblical Ethics, Christian Leadership, and Community Health Evangelism at a local theological college.
